Even though we have visited Yosemite Valley multiple times, this fall trip was our first visit to Glacier Point. I had heard so much about the place, but it’s almost a one-hour drive from the valley, which always discouraged us. But this time, after a great sunrise outing, we realized we had just about time to get to Glacier Point about an hour before sunset. With short days, we could even be back at our hotel before the restaurants close.

The crowds at Glacier Point were insane. Even the trailhead to Taft Point was full, but thankfully, we were able to find a parking spot just in time. After a quick walk to the main two viewpoints, I was almost resigned to not getting a shot that day due to the crowd when I came across this scene with nobody around. If you look at the far left of the image, you can see the main viewpoint. I just loved this view especially how the haze and smoke in the valley softened the stunning golden hour light—one of my favorite sunsets this year.

Death Valley trip complete! What a wonderful week in the California desert. Massive ephemeral lakes, wildflowers in December, and of course, amazing scenery with a great group of workshop clients.
