Mortuary boards are wooden boards on which tombs are laid until the funeral and which ware afterwards used to remember the deceased on the wayside.
In Bavaria, the burial of the dead in coffins began around the 17/18 century. Before that time, the deceased were laid out in the living room on boards and carried to their graves. The boards were either buried with the body wrapped in a linen cloth, burned or kept for further deaths.
In the Bavarian Forest and in the Upper Palatinate area, the custom arose to use the board for an inscription to remember the person. Initially, only three crosses were carved into the wood, later more detailed texts and poems for the praise of the deceased were added. More or less elaborate carvings and colored paintings became common until the mid-19th century.

The "Waldlerhaus" is a local form of agricultural building, typical of the Bavarian Forest and Upper Palatine Forest in Germany. The term Waldlerhaus goes back to the 19th century and describes the house of a person who lives in and from the forest.

Its distribution area is bounded by the edges of the Bavarian and Upper Palatine Forests. The boundary of the associated cultural-historical region has been complicated by recent history. Until the Second World War the area of the lower Bavarian Forest, the Mühlviertel in Austria and the southern Bohemian Forest in present-day Czech Republic, formed one large unit. This means there is also a difficulty in determining its boundary with the Bohemian Forest house (Böhmerwaldhaus),
which occurs in the Czech Republic and in the "Šumava", the Czech part of the Bohemian Forest.

It is a pity that most of these house get lost. This one is used as a barn.

In Bavaria, the beaver was eradicated in 1867 and a small number was resettled in 1966.
Today, about 18,000 beavers live in Bavaria. This is a beaver pond near a street with heavy traffic located in the Bavarian forest..

Pleš (German Plöss, or Plöß) is a municipality part of Bělá nad Radbuzou in Okres Domažlice in the Czech Republic in the west Bohemian. Pleš was once the highest settlement (765 meters) in the district Bischofteinitz and has been a deserted village since the 1960s.

The old Rössler Villa is the only surviving building and was initially used as a forester's lodge and is associated with the smuggler Josef Zíka, who was a forester in Plöß. The house was redesigned after the fall of the Berlin Wall into a guesthouse with boarding house.

This image is from a meadow just behind the boarding house.

Today, the former castle Herrnfehlburg consists of a chapel and a rectangular building of a rural baroque style. In the past, one could look through a large window from the dance hall of the castle into the chapel.
Herrnfehlburg i located at the footing of the Gallner, a mountain allowing a spectacular view of the Danube valley and the Alps, if the weather is fine.
Today the sunset was spectacular. Thus, I reduced the saturation of this image.
