A chimney near Platting during the "campaign".

The "beet campaign" is the time during which the sugar factories process sugar beet. It usually lasts from mid-September to the end of December, and also in January to better utilize the factories.

Südzucker AG is a German company, the largest sugar producer in Europe, with an annual production of around 4.8 million tonnes.
