Iceland is well known for its geological features and geysers are one such phenomenon. They are found in areas of volcanic activity. The water is heated by magma below the earth's surface and when the pressurised water boils it is forced up into the air though a vent in the earth's surface. Strokkur erupts every few minutes to a height of about 30 meters, it's impressive to watch. Strokkur is Icelandic for churn.

An Icelandic panorama. This shot of a distant mountain range and glaciers was taken from Gullfoss waterfall, I'm not sure of their name though. I've stitched 3 shots together for this panorama.

Gullfoss is one of Iceland's most popular waterfalls. It's located in the canyon of the Olfusa river. It falls 32 meters in two drops, the longest drop is 21 meters, it's certainly an impressive sight.

One of the hopes of our short visit to Iceland was the possibility of seeing the Aurora Borealis. The weather on the chosen day wasn't looking good so the day was changed. We were taken to an isolated location with nothing around but a church. Whilst taking a shot of the church I got really lucky as suddenly there was a brief aurora display in the sky overhead.

A short video of Gullfoss Waterfall, which hopefully gives an appreciation of this terrific attraction.
