A short family break before Christmas was the ideal opportunity to see some of the sights of New York. Here at Ground Zero is the sight of the attacks on the Twin Towers World Trade Centre that took place on 11 Sptember 2001. This is one of the 2 memorials now in their place.

Around the memorial are the names of the 2,996 people who lost their lives on that dreadful day. In this case a rose had been added as a personal touch of remembrance. Poignant indeed.

The one downside of visiting New York just before Christmas is that it's bitterly cold and if there's no break in the cloud the light is very flat.
For those wishing to see wildlife in New York this has to be the best place to go. In the few hours I was there I saw Red-tailed Hawk, Northern Flicker, Tufted Titmouse, Blue Jay and a beautiful, Northern Cardinal. Sadly no pictures tho'

Standing at 1,776 feet tall with 104 floors, the One World Trade Center is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. It is adjacent to the site of the Twin Towers.
