When I decided to take a short trip to the beautiful bohemian city of Cesky Krumlov at the moldova river a week before Easter, I had a really spring-like idea of what to expect there. I expected chirping birds, blooming flowers, a gentle evening breeze and a golden sunset.
What I got instead was this, heavy snowfall, icy wind and minus 6 degrees. I couldn't have been further wrong.
Even if the basic conditions from a photographic point of view are suboptimal at best, the trip was still a complete success for me. The city is really great and it wasn't my last time there.
Als ich mich entschieden habe eine Woche vor Ostern einen kurzen Ausflug in die wunderschöne böhmische Stadt Krumau an der Moldau zu unternehmen hatte ich eine richtig frühlingshafte Vorstellung, was mich dort erwarten würde. Ich erwartete zwitschernde Vögel, blühende Blumen, einen sanften Abendwind und einen goldenen Sonnenuntergang.
Was ich bekommen habe war das hier, Starker Schneefall, eisiger Wind und minus 6 Grad. Weiter hätte ich nicht daneben liegen können.
Auch wenn die Rahmenbedingungen aus fotografischer Sicht bestenfalls als suboptimal durchgehen, so war der Ausflug für mich trotzdem ein voller Erfolg. Die Stadt ist wirklich toll und ich war nicht das letzte Mal dort.

How about a little look into the past? Here you can see Loket Castle, which is located in the small town of Loket in the Czech Republic.
The castle has been extensively restored and is definitely worth a visit. The oldest parts of the complex date back to the 12th and 13th centuries. So a real medieval castle. The builder could be a minister of the famous Emperor Frederick 1st Barbarossa.
It is an impressive building and photogenic too.
Wie wäre es mit einem kleinen Blick in die Vergangenheit ? Hier seht Ihr die Burg Elbogen, die sich im kleinen Ort Loket in Tschechien befindet.
Die Burg ist sehr aufwendig restauriert und auf jedem Fall eines Besuch wert. Die ältesten Teile der Anlage stammen bereits aus dem 12. und 13. Jahrhundert. Also eine echte Mittelalter Burg. Der Erbauer könnte ein Minister des berühmten Kaisers Friedrich I. Barbarossas sein.
Ein beeindruckendes Gemäuer und fotogen ist es auch noch.

I would like to introduce you to the Hans-Heiling-Rock on the Eger River near the Czech city of Karlovy Vary.
A legend tells that Hans Heiling once lived here and exchanged his life and that of his beloved for the ability to do black magic with a river nymph. Which of course, as always, ended ugly in the end.
This legend not only fascinated me, but also the famous poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He was regularly in Karlovy Vary for spa stays, loved this place and often hiked here.
The story of Hans Heiling was one of the inspirations that finally found itself in his famous work "Faust". I think one of the crucial ones, because there are very clear parallels between the stories of Faust and Hans.
Ich möchte Euch den Hans-Heiling-Felsen am Fluß Eger in der Nähe der tschechischen Stadt Karlsbad vorstellen.
Eine Sage berichtet, dass Hans Heiling einst hier lebte und an dieser Stelle bei einer Flußnymphe sein Leben und das seiner Geliebten gegen die Fähigkeit der schwarzen Magie eingetauscht hat. Was natürlich am Ende, wie immer, unschön endete.
Diese Sage hat nicht nur mich begeistert, sondern auch den berühmten Dichter Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Dieser war regelmäßig zu Kuraufenhalten in Karlsbad, hat diesen Platz geliebt und ist oft hierher gewandert.
Die Geschichte von Hans Heiling war eine der Inspirationen, die sich schlußendlich in seinem berühmten Werk "Faust" wiederfanden. Ich glaube, eine der entscheidenden, denn zwischen den Geschichten von Faust und von Hans gibt es schon sehr deutliche Parallelen.

An azure sky with small fluffy clouds is reflected in the water of the Vltava against the magnificent backdrop of the golden city of Prague. There is no better way to start an ascent to this beautiful city.
The photo was taken on a short tour, which was actually only intended to check out the situation. But that single cloud directly above Prague Castle made sure I could'nt walk past it.
Ein azurblauer Himmel mit kleinen Schäfchenwolken spiegelt sich im Wasser der Moldau vor der grandiosen Kulisse der goldenen Stadt Prag. Besser kann ein Ausflug in diese wunderschöne Stadt nicht beginnen.
Das Foto entstand auf einem kurzen Rundgang, der eigentlich nur zur Sondierung der Lage gedacht war. Doch diese eine Wolke direkt über der Prager Burg sorgte dafür, dass ich daran nicht vorbei gehen konnte.

For the last time that day, the warm rays of the evening sun caress the old town of Prague before it settles behind the mountains.
The city does not follow this example. I don't get the impression that she ever really rests.
Nevertheless, there are also times and places here where things are much quieter, which is why I was up here and watched the hustle and bustle and, above all, the constant changes in the lighting mood from a distance.
A little fun fact on the side: There are a total of about 180 bridges in Prague (some of them are true works of art). 18 bridges lead over the Vltava and 5 of them can be seen in this photo.
Das letzte Mal an diesem Tag streichen die warmen Strahlen der Abendsonne sanft über die Altstadt von Prag, bevor sie sich hinter den Bergen zur Ruhe begibt.
Die Stadt folgt diesem Beipiel nicht. Ich habe nicht den Eindruck, dass sie jemals wirklich ruht.
Trotzdem gibt es auch hier Zeiten und Orte, an denen etwas deutlich entspannter ist, darum war ich hier oben und haben mir das Treiben und vor allem die stetigen Veränderungen der Lichtstimmung aus der Entfernung angesehen.
Kleiner fun fact am Rande: In Prag gibt es ingesamt ca 180 Brücken (einige davon sind wahre Kunstwerke). 18 Brücken führen über die Moldau von denen 5 hier auf dem Foto zu sehen sind.
