Here's a shot of the Great Horned Owlet in a Eucalyptus Tree that I took a few weeks ago. I got shots of them nesting in a nearby palm as well, but too much of the owlets were behind palm fronds. I went back this weekend and no one had seen the Owls for days.

Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder’s fork and blind-worm’s sting,
Lizard’s leg and owlet’s wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble
~William Shakespeare

A wise old owl lived in an oak
The more he saw the less he spoke
The less he spoke the more he heard.
Why can't we all be like that wise old bird?
This wise old owl is so learned that he resides at the library! Well, at least the owl lives on the grounds of the library over-looking the lake. Thanks Maureen for directions to the site!

Most photos of owls are shot with a frontal view, showing both eyes; whereas for most other birds a side view is preferred. This shot of a Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia) stretching his leg and wing, captures him in a side view. I liked it because I thought it showed this small owl's true character: proud and confident.
