Looking for the Grebe chicks again this weekend, I carried my big lens and tripod too. Boy, was that a mistake. Not only didn't I see the chicks, but I also used muscles I didn't even know I had. I've decided to take a few days off from birding so my muscles can rebuild.
I got this Red-shoulder Hawk the previous week. I hand held the shot (I hadn't yet taxed my muscles!) Minor crop

I had seen so many different hawks on Monday, but just as I was thinking that I hadn't seen a Red-tailed Hawk, I saw one perched in the distance. As I started to take some shots, he flew off his perch and circled me overhead. (This shot has a very small crop.) He did not like me and circled me telling me to get lost! (At least that's my interpretation.) He does look a little grumpy, don't you think?

My husband, who is not into photography or birding, indulges my passion for Hawks. On the way home from the desert this weekend, I asked him to stop the car twice for Hawks and once for wild Turkeys. He patiently waited in the car as I shot away. I'm very fortunate!

My wonderful husband helps me look for hawks as we drive home from desert, but often it is difficult to find a decent place to pull off the side of the road. We saw this Red-tailed Hawk perched up on a telephone poll so we parked at the nearest turn out, and I was able to walk back to it and get some shots. Apparently he didn't like me taking his photograph and didn't stay long before he flew off.
