On my birding trip to Iceland, I leaned something new - if you wear wind/rain pants over you regular pants, your bottom stays dry when seated on the edge of a pond. Also, wearing muk boots enables you to dangle your feet in the water while keeping dry.
You must remember that I'm from S. California where it rarely rains. So I have little experience with wet conditions.
