I'm very puzzled why someone would want to build a 4 story apartment building here, according to the caption under a similar pic the Chicago Tribune ran just today. Did the alderman for whatever block this is within(forget if it's the 48th or 40th ward) really approve that?

Very out of character for this area IMHO, when(ah hell, I'll go as far to be even more strict) 2 stories would be more appropriate for a replacement building. And special thanks to Mark(mss2400) for photographing this, since it was only after he uploaded his pic did I realize this had been unveiled.

ETA: On a different uploaded pic of this sign, flickr user kmiosk(and thank you for posting that comment) posted this link of Coke advertising slogans from the 1890s, to present. On this site, it says the slogan(as fully spelled out here with Relieves Fatigue, Sold Everywhere, and 5 cents) is from 1907:

Another 2018 pic that's suddenly more relevant to upload, since very soon if not already all this vintage signage will be taken down, and the lot demolished for yet another condo development I fear. :( At least the 850/OK Cars sign is going to be saved by a sign collector, per what I read online.

It still kills me that I never was able to get a pic of the side of this motel along Lincoln, but at least one flickr photographer got shots of that side before it was gone, and another got a shot of the sign when it was on(link to be added to those pic(s) when i remember who shot it). A bit surprising too that the eBayer who bought this sign(as the auction had closed sometime before the weekend I did my Lincoln Ave. motel photoset) had yet to pick it up when I finally was able to shoot this pic in late September! Doing this shot too reminded me of when I shot a pic of the Lakeside Motel's old sign on Sheridan Rd. early this year or late last year(when at the time I shot it, it also only had its neon sign left, and the motel building had been completely demolished at the time)

Still standing as of mid-November 2011. I don't think this sign will be disappearing, anytime soon....

And sadly, I noticed this mural was completely scrubbed off of this brick wall in an alley, the last time I was in the area in October. This was slightly east of the Bucktown-Wicker Park Library.

I was really pissed at the developer of the condo building in the background, since when I tried to take a pic of the sign on the other side, a part of their damn sign covered up a noticable part of the Lincoln Motel sign. There was no way I could get an angle of a pic of that side without that occuring, unless I stood in the street, and got a bad angled shot(not to mention risking getting hit by cars). Not to mention I noticed this too in a pic someone got of the other side of this sign on flickr(will put up the link to this one later).

Very belated edit(since I was creating a new set on neon signs): this one has been gone for several years now.
