This set was the one that really convinced me how jam-packed with potential the Speed Champions product line is, and started me down a very slippery, very happy slope.

I thought this set was terrific out of the box. Per usual, that lasted a few days and I had to start tinkering :)

For the GT, I began by modifying the shaping of the front slightly and added sideview mirrors with a technique I picked up from EROL sometime ago. You’ll notice I have an affinity for this one:) The rear half of the car was an area that I felt could be improved with small adjustments. I added the oft-seen intake above the driver compartment and added 1x2 plates w/ rail that help to close the gap between the side wing slats and the central body shape so that they really connect. I couldn’t stand the studs on those wings and decided to tile them. It starts feeling a bit more like armor, but cleans up the car quite a lot (hopefully those new 45º tiles will fit the bill here if they release in red). The side skirting along the bottom of the car felt a bit noisy to me with visible studs and so many crossing lines, so I changed the lower portion to black cheese slopes. This helped to emphasize the vertical sloping that meets that distinctive side curve as the design moves rearward. I also reworked the rear diffuser attachment a little, and redesigned the exhaust and rear wing supports. Finally, I added white letters and black wheels to really land that LeMans track look and provide some nice fine small-scale detail to the car. It’s definitely what falls into the zone of a “caricature” of the car, but I like the look a lot and it retains the right aggressive feeling.
