What better place to start my self-inflicted 2021 Motion 100x project than with a wobbly camera image?

ICMs, as they are confusing dubbed by the cognoscenti of this strange world, seem by their name to promise more than they can deliver.

The "intentional" bit suggests that you're in control. But that's certainly not the way that works in practice for me.

Serendipity, that sultry goddess of erratic beneficence, always insists on playing her part...

And there was I wandering down a local lane on my daily "permitted exercise" and I thought, what happens if I just point the camera up and sideways and fire off a few shots as I walk along?

The advantage of winter is that the forms of the trees really stand out. It's quite amazing the variety out there.

But what fun! Loads of watery possibilities here.

And so we start...

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy 100x :)

[Developed in Affinity Photo keeping some tone in the trunk.
Converted in Silver Efex starting from the High Structure (Harsh) preset. No colouring.
Textured very slightly using a lighting filter in Affinity.]

Driving back home after abandoning daughter to her fate...

100 x Motion. Take 2.

This was taken and processed on the phone. The processing was using Flickr's Android editing interface which I only discovered today. All blitzed on the chroma pix.

And if you are wondering what we are looking at, we're following a white van (they've been breeding like mice in the pandemic) through one set of traffic lights (green... reassuringly) under a road bridge with a central pillar on to where the road splits with two more traffic lights - red turning on the right and green (on the left) where the road is going straight on. The blue/white on the right is our satnav... Or had you already worked all that out?

It wasn't quite dark so that's blue sky at the top complete with a spike of a streetlamp on the top road, in the middle.

And for those who were so quick with their condemnation last time: I confirm that I was not driving - the passenger sits on the left in sensible cars (so the driver can use her sword - or jousting lance if she is feeling sporting - out of the window), OK? ;)

I took this for all the coloured lights, and that kind of worked. Moving images are often delightfully abstract!

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy 100x!

An evergreen tree danced with a deciduous tree one grey winter day...

Another wobbly camera shot from my local walk. I took about 60 images of this sort of view, and some of them even turned out vaguely interesting. This was one - all interesting textures.

100x Motion: Take 3.

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy 100x :)

[Handheld while walking.
Developed in Affinity Photo with a bit of Clarity to bring out the texture, and Curves to get a nice balance of tones.
Converted to mono in Silver Efex with lots of structure, light vignettes and dark burnt edge at the bottom. Light Copper toning though I made the silver tone (i.e. the darks) bluer than the preset.]

Another wobbly one from my walk a while ago for my little 100x Motion project.

This is the drive to Owlpen Manor, a public footpath. The manor is a private house in a small valley which is one of the header valleys for the one where I live about a mile away. It is now used for events like weddings. Parts date back to the 1100s.

Owlpen is a little hamlet with just the manor, a small manor church (with interesting mosaics), an old courthouse, and a few houses and a couple of farms. There’s a Wikipedia entry that waxes lyrical about it if you are interested. This is, after all, just a picture of a muddy track.

What I like about this image are the textures you get (you may need to zoom in to see these if you are curious, depending on your device). Much of the texturing comes I think from the heavy sharpening I have done in the processing - I’ve used Unsharp Mask, Clarity and High Pass/Linear Light blend mode, all at pretty high settings.

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image and touching the textures. Happy 100x :)

... were chatting in the dark one night…

The room I rather grandiosely call my Study is in truth a room with many purposes. Even, on occasion, poor visitors have been required to sleep on its floor.

And when they do, can you believe it, they complain! “It’s like sleeping inside a Christmas tree.”

Actually, I can see what they mean. There are lots of flashing lights scattered all over it, two or three dozen - not just the network stuff (there's another switch hidden somewhere, though I've not seen it fro a while), but phones, radios, clocks, NASs, power sockets and screens, all scintillating happily away... The night is never dark here except in a power cut.

They’re a sign, I guess, of our modern digital lives… we’d be lost without our LEDs.

This is a wobbly camera shot for my Motion 100x. I like it as an abstract, and with three colours, three light shapes, and three blocks of interest and the diagonal flow, it has a certain compositional appeal. Or at least I have thus convinced my myself :)

And because I know everyone loves useless information, and spurious facts, the modem is the very blue, the switch the green, and the router...

Can you tell which lights flickered with network activity while I took the shot? Now that is the question. Well, it's certainly a question, anyway...

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image of little import. Happy 100x :)
