This is a second image from my September visit to Sharpness docks. There are the remains of quite an extensive rail network and marshalling yard serving the port, and some bits remain with old rolling stock and a little tank shunter.
Amongst this was a pile of old concrete railway sleepers complete with cast iron rail clamps. I was intrigued by the repetition of the shapes, and the textures in the failing light of the day.
The clamps are interesting in that each one is cast with the year of manufacture prominent on the top - the year varied but typically it was 1968 or around there.
In the image you can also see a BR stamp on the far side of the in-focus area. British Railways came into being after the war as a nationalisation of the four main independent rail companies, and presumably served the docks.
This is another one for my 100x Monochrome and Toned project (#97).
Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy 100x :)
