Oak crown.

Of all the indigenous British trees the English Oak sustains by far the greatest variety of wildlife within the ecosystem formed by its branches, leaves and roots.

In many ways the oak was the foundation of the British Empire, a reliable hardwood used to build the ships with which, for better or worse, we exerted power throughout the world from this damp, chilly rocky outcrop sticking out in a backwater of the North Atlantic.

This was taken a couple of weeks ago on a walk in the local lanes. In winter you get to see all the twigs, and all those lines made me think that it would be fun to see what the Topaz Glow filter would do with it.

So, some while later, I have four variants which I hope (rather optimistically of course) to entertain and amuse you. Three are based on presets I have created previously in Topaz Studio, and one uses Nik Silver Efex for a mono version destined to join my 100x collection. (If you would like the presets just ask :) ).

The commentary is the same for all of them, and I link the original in-camera image in my first comment.

I - Coronadendron (literally tree crown). The main work here was done with the Glow filter in Topaz.

II - Hopperesque Coronadendron. Based on the Edward Hopper preset using the Impression filter. I’m not very educated about art but I know that Edward Hopper’s work really appeals to me. Not that this looks like any of his lol.
This is probably my favourite of the set. It reminds me of Japanese paintings of trees, a style of art that I love.

III - Glazed Coronadendron. This one uses AI Remix which is a kind of instant painting style filter. Usually it doesn’t work too well, or at least this sub-style doesn’t, but when I tried it this time I rather liked the effect of the coloured cells in amongst the branches. That’s part of the fun - random discoveries that turn out to be visually interesting…

IV - Mono version. This uses Nik Silver Efex and one of my presets. What appealed here is the dark moody skies behind which are hardly noticeable in the original. And that too is part of the fun - discovering hidden things in real photos.

Thank you for taking the time to look and read. I hope you enjoy the images! Happy Sliders Sunday and 100x :)
