Umbrella.

This is for the umbrellas theme today for the Smile on Saturday group.

I found it difficult to come up with something different. There are a lot of fine images of colourful brollies in the group today and novel viewpoints and scenes...

{sigh}

It didn't help either that all the umbrellas in the cupboard had disappeared save one. This one is actually maroon but monochrome and blue-tinted here (dual-purposing for my 100x project which is currently a couple of epochs behind...).

I guess I just liked the abstract feel to this view. It feels a bit space telescope-y, or some boson accelerator thingy...

All a bit of fun :)

Thank you for taking the time look. I hope you enjoy the image! Happy Smile on Saturday and 100x :)

[Handheld in daylight.
Developed in Capture One for contrast and colour. Medium clarity, loads of structure.
In Affinity a bit more tweaking of the light, High Pass/Linear blend sharpening. No crop.
Converted in Nik Silver Efex, starting with one of my presets. with blue toning and large soft frame vignette. Ask if you want the preset :)]

Californian Poppy.

This looks nothing like a Californian Poppy in real life...

Or does it?

Well, I guess that depends on what you see when you look at a Californian Poppy.

Which in itself is an interesting question...

Or is it?

Well, I guess that depends on what you find interesting...

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Donnerstagsmonochrom & 100x :)

Supermarket trolleys.

This is another one from pre-lockdown in Cambridge.

Scholars of trolley wheels will be quick to spot that these ones are rather special. They're not your average run of the mill (or supermarket) ones...

The Sainsbury's in Eddington has an inclined moving walkway to get up to the shop from the underground carpark. So the trolleys need to have brakes that automatically come on as your trolley hits the ramp and then unlock at the top.

I'm not quite sure how they work - I'll have to investigate and report back next time I am there!

So that's what the wings on the wheels are. And that's your interesting-but-useless fact of the day :)

For my 100x monochrome and toned project.

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy 100x :)

[Handheld in flurorescent light.
Developed in Affinity Photo from the raw.
DeHaze filter followed by tweaking with Curves and sharpening with Unsharp Mask.
I've found the DeHaze filter useful with all sorts of images as a way of increasing contrast and saturation in some areas of the image.
A bit of glow and blur vignette and B&W conversion in Nik Color Efex.
Slight dark vignette.]

Spring woods.

This was taken in March at a bird reserve in Cambridge. I just love the complex tracery of the branches.

For the Crazy Tuesday group's Silhouette theme.

Silhouette is a word I struggle to spell. Why not write it silohoot? I know it's French, but just remember Agincourt OK? [Our hapless commentator ducks and runs...]

Converted to B&W and toned for my 100x challenge...

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Crazy Tuesday and 100x. :)))

Go on, humour me: have a guess. (I'll leave a clue or two lying around...)

Even I thought this was a bit strange by the time I had finished with it. But I rather like the effect - the glories of monochrome!

For the Monochrome Thursday group and my 100x challenge (monochrome and toned).

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image! Happy Monochrome Thursday and 100x :)

[Tripod; ordinary bright daylight.
Developed in Capture One for stripey detail and colour.
Into Affinity for cinematic format crop and rotation to add interest.
High Pass/Linear Blend sharpening.
All the work was done really in Nik Color Efex Pro 4 (i.e. Nik Collection 2).
Recipe:
- Classical Soft Focus
- Contrast Only
- Graduated Filter to take down the top right corner which was distracting
- IR Film (most of the magic gravy here)
- Paper Toner for the toning.
What fun!]
