Go on guess.

OK I’ll give you a clue. It’s a home type item. This one is unique and so will yours be when you have one, though they don’t last all that long until you buy the next one.

I'll leave the answer here somewhere in case you get stuck and it starts annoying you (which wouldn't be fun).

Oh. And I mangled the processing just to make it look more interesting. That’s what may confuse you :)

For Donnertagsmonochrom and my 100x project (this one should be plain B&W).

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Monochrome Thursday and 100x :)

[Handheld in indoor lighting.
Developed in Affinity. Curves, Clarity and High Pass/Linear blend in processing.
Converted to B&W using Nik Color Efex with a B&W Solarisation filter, followed by an IR Film filter and finished off with a Vignette Blur to add a little mystery. Back in AP just a little Unsharp Mask sharpening.]

Just a quick one for you today.

I was messing around with an image of fallen leaves (of which I have zillions) using Affinity on the iPad. My “bright” idea this time was to try combining the posterise filter with the detect edges filter.

The posterise filter reduces the number of colours of an image, so you tend to end up with blocks of uniform colour. The theory went that the detect edges would find the edges of these posterised blocks and would therefore detect more than in the image with gradual colour gradients.

So this was done using posterise set at seven levels followed by the application of the detect edges filter. The edge detection tends to leave a dark result with a lot of subdued colours, so the rest of the fun was strengthening and brightening the image, changing the overall hue and similar playtime escapades.

I’m not sure the posterise/detect edges combination was particularly effective here as there were quite a few edges in this image anyway, but I thought the end result was quite nice.

Hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for taking the time to look. Happy Sliders Sunday :)

I’ll post a link to the in-camera original in the first comment as usual.

In recent weeks I have been working on a project called Reflected Petals. This has involved taking a top-down image of a flower and then using mirror distortions to create a symmetric design. If the starting image has plenty of detail and some colour contrast you get some really interesting results.

I’ll eventually get around to sharing the outcomes of the project here on Flickr (though I have already published pictures like this over the years).

Ironically this particular image is not part of the main project, but something I did last night when I was bored and desperately trying to think of something to do for Sliders Sunday today. I should have really been going to bed…

Normally I would use the Distort > Mirror filter in Affinity, but here I used the Chromebook running an Android app called Mirrorlab. This program is great fun to play with (if you like that sort of thing), but you soon drift far away from visual reality…

This image is based on a picture of an ox-eye daisy that I published here seven months ago. The quickest way to get a suitable starting image on to the Chromebook last night was to download it from Flickr. I’ll publish a link to the in-camera image as usual in my first comment.

I like this result because of all the woven petals - that’s not an effect you would get in Affinity. Like a lot of these distorted images, most of the beauty comes from the original flower, and the repetition and distortion encourage you to look more closely at what nature has already achieved.

I hope you enjoy it anyway. Normal, undistorted service will resume tomorrow :)

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image! Happy Sliders Sunday :)

I love the patterns that fallen leaves make. And the jumble of different kinds...

This was taken in my garden during one of the earlier frosts of what has been an unusually frosty winter for recent times.

This one was another adventure using Nik Color Efex for the stylising. I really like these filters for producing some really nice photo-realistic effects. Definitely the ones I would want on my desert island. (If you would like the preset I created for this, just ask.)

This one is not for a group or a project. I just liked it :)

Thanks for all your comments and faves. I'll try and respond as and when I am able! Have a lovely week...

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image.

Perseverance’s first images have startled scientists worldwide…

Well, maybe. This is really an iced puddle in unremarkable rural Gloucestershire, another of my frosty series.

The puddle was in the middle of a lane and had obviously been run over by a vehicle. But what intrigued me was the triangle shapes that had formed.

Happy weekend everyone. I hope you enjoy your photography and everything else!

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you are enjoying the image. Keep smiling :)

[Handheld in low-angle daylight.
Processed in Capture One and Affinity for tonal balance and lots of detail (the puddle surface had lovely swirls).
Mangled in Color Efex, mainly for fun, using about a dozen of the filters including blurs and an InfraRed filter. Dark and blur vignettes (ask if you want the preset I created).]
