Autumn leaves.

Come autumn when the trees change colour I keep thinking: what an awe-inspiring sight; how photogenic... I must take a picture...

And so I do: trees... leaves on the ground, that last leaf on a branch. You know the sort of thing.

And then you get home and look at these captures and most of the time they go into the mweh.... bin.

Or at least mine do. I must have the world's largest collection of unpublished images of autumn leaves on the ground, all sitting comfortably in that bin of no return.

And so it's time for another batch. Same experience of course but I plucked this one out to tart up for Sliders Sunday.

Colours, shapes, textures... and probably one of the better accidental compositions, so let's give it a go.

I'll post a copy of the in-camera basic version in the first comment so you can see how far we came.

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the autumnal warmth of the image! Happy Sliders Sunday everyone :)

[Handheld in autumnal cloud-light.
Developed in Capture One for colour and detail.
Processed in Affinity Photo using Topaz Studio and the Celestial Skies preset to start the tinkering. This one is a mixture of Radiance (used to be Glow), Bloom and Precision Contrast.
Back into Photo for a bit of sharpening, a Depth of Field Blur filter ( diagonally so most obvious in top right, bottom left corners) and a soft dark vignette, along with a bit of desaturation (honest!).]

Leaves.

I posted a shot for Sliders Sunday last week. It was one of a set of variations on the theme all based on one original picture.

I didn’t have time to publish the rest at the time so I’ll do it now, in case it interests anyone.

The fun for me is in creating these different endpoints and seeing which ones work and which don’t. It’s always interesting to hear which you prefer too as that often surprises me.

The original image is linked in the first comment. I did about ten variants in all but I’ll only share the ones that I like for some reason or the other.

I’ve been going to A MFA self-help group (Mirror Filterers Anonymous) in recent months. They’re a friendly bunch and have helped me control my addiction. Sadly I shall have to admit to them my lapse - they will not be pleased :(

Don’t you just like the organic textures and leaves? (No obligation to say yes!) This reminds me of beetle exoskeletons for some reason :)

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the images (and don’t get too bored!)

[This one was made from the B&W version with a twofold mirror filter in Afinity Photo and dragging the cursor (origin) around in the image to find something interesting. I like the whole leaves in it though another version uncovered some moths!]

Because the subject is all about curves and textures and shapes I thought it would work well in monochrome, and I think it does. Do you?

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the images (and don’t get too bored!)

I absolutely love this one for the graphic illustrative look. I especially like the sedum flowers up in the top left, and the surreal twirliness of the small leaf veins.

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the images (and don’t get too bored!)

I like this one for its emphasis on the leaf veins and its graphic illustration quality.
