Fence post.

This is glorious, highly technical, post-processing magic acting on the previous version - Post, Processed (1)…

Well, I wish. I am sure it would do my ego no end of good to let that fiction persist, but it is not to be.

All I did to create this version was to blend the previous version with the original in-camera image in an underlying layer using Difference blend mode. I was quite surprised at the result.

OK I realise you may not see the post top. If you like, try stepping back from the screen and shutting one eye (but make sure the neighbours can’t see you :) ). Our brains are very good at constructing something out of nothing!

This is a precursor image to several others that I started working on at the weekend for Sliders Sunday. I ran out of time. Normally I wouldn’t post an interim image like this but I quite liked it at this stage with the subdued colour - almost a monochrome effect. The next step is more colourful :)

It’s an old picture of a weathered fence post in late afternoon light, processed with Topaz Studio and the Glow module in particular. I am really quite intrigued by the effects you can get with this filter, especially when there are strong lines and contours in the starting image.

Fence post.

I originally made this, as a gift of little consequence, for a friend who was struggling a bit with the ups and downs of life.

One of the defining features we have as human beings is the ability we have to comprehend and appreciate beauty. And I find, if I only look, nature has installed beauty all around for me to enjoy.

Images like this, reminiscent of mandalas, always remind me of the beauty flowers with their regular symmetry, bright colours, intricate detail. I also find them strangely peaceful to contemplate…

I was hoping, then, that my friend would enjoy something that was calming, absorbing, and perhaps a little uplifting.

So a gift of little consequence, but hopefully one of some significance :)

[This is based on Post, Processed (2) using a 6 mirror distortion filter in Affinity Photo, followed by a little tweaking of colour and Clarity.]
