Glass marbles on lightbox.

I originally took this as a trial shot for the Macro Mondays group theme Game Pieces last week. But the day went from bad to worse, both with photography and circumstances, and I eventually abandoned putting anything in. I decided to concentrate on enjoying the creativity of others.

I had another look at some of these shots this week and I thought this one might be redeemable. It’s for the 7DWF macro/close-up theme.

These marbles are from my boyhood collection which is why they are so battered :)

In colloquial English to lose one’s marbles is to go insane, which I thought was humorously appropriate in the light of last week.

Thank you for looking. I hope you enjoy the image

[In LR cropped to 16:9 for a cinematic feel, rotated to get a diagonal emphasis. Increased exposure for a high key image. Tweaked vibrance a little, but kept clarity and saturation down to save the detail. Into Photo for very light adjustment in Topaz Detail and Topaz Clarity to try and get the colour/detail/edges balance a bit better. A bit more tweaking with sharpness and shadows and a slight dark vignette.]

Marbles on a lightbox.

This is from a set of four different process interpretations of an image of marbles.

I thought this image would be good as a basis for playing around for Sliders Sunday because they have strong colour and repeating shapes in a high contrast image.

They are all messed around based on the original image and two versions prepared with Topaz Glow, blended with different blend modes. I also converted the image to LAB colour format and inverted several of the channels in some of the versions.

I totally lost track of what I did, but then that’s the fun taking control. If you want to have a try just play around with the ideas and see what you come up with. Have fun!!!
I’ll post the original image linked in the first comment - if you want to use it feel free, please just let me know (and perhaps share where your fun took you :) ).

Which do you prefer? I had to choose one for the Sliders Sunday group!

Thank you for taking time to look. I hope you enjoy the images! Happy Sliders Sunday :)

Marbles on LED lightbox.

This is the second from the trial set I took a few weeks ago of marbles on a lightbox for the Macro Mondays theme of Game Piece which never went anywhere. The original image wasn’t terribly good but I like the composition so a rescue effort was needed.

The marbles are veritably ancient, battered ones dating from my boyhood. Happy days!

Aren’t the colours pretty? The image is really a bit of self-indulgence: I processed it in a way that concentrates on abstract form of the colours in a high key rendering, largely ignoring the extra noise this produced.

For 7DWF Macro/Close-up theme.

Thank you so much for taking time to look. I hope you enjoy the image!

[Handheld. Cheap and cheerful LED lightbox for illumination. LR: a bit of contrast and clarity and a bit more Vibrance. A tickle of saturation.
In Photo - Levels: dropped the white threshold to white-out the greys and increased the black level to give more definition in the colour bits; Shadow/highlights: bumped highlights; Clarity boost; Unsharp Mask to sharpen and Denoise to take out the worst artefacts; dark vignette to draw attention to the centre.]
