Though not a major arterial road, the pass is a fairly well-used link between the towns of Naseby and Ranfurly in the south and the Mackenzie Basin of inland Canterbury NZ. Dansey Pass was named after William Dansey, lessee of Otekaieke run in North Otago till 1871. He used the route to enter and explore the Maniototo. There's gold in them there hills.
