A recent arrival at the Great Central Railway (North), Ruddington from the DB Cargo Class 08 final slaughter is 08922. Arriving a couple of weeks previously it is being stripped down into its component parts, 4th February 2017. 08922 was my last Class 08 to see in my number chasing days in the 1960/70’s

Locomotive History
Originally D4152 it was built at Horwich Works and entered traffic in November 1962 allocated to Edge Hill MPD. For the first part of its career it was a Liverpool engine transferring to Allerton when Edge Hill closed in 1968. In June 1970 it transferred to Barrow returning to Allerton in October 1975 where it remained for the next twelve years until transferred to Bletchley in October 1987. Its next move was to Ashford in October 1990 before heading north to Motherwell in May 1992. In later years it has been in and out of store and had spells at Dee Marsh and Carlisle before it moved to Toton in March 2011 and was stored for the final time. It was eventually sold in December 2016 and moved to the Great Central Railway (North) at Ruddington.

A superb 5 inch gauge live steam model of Great Western Railway 0-6-0PT 1500 waiting “disposal” after a few runs at the Nottingham Society of Model and Experimental Engineers Railway extensive facilities at the Great Central Railway (North), Ruddington, 4th February 2017. Introduced in June 1949, the 15xx Class were a short-wheelbase design for heavy shunting duties and departed from the normal Great Western Railway tradition in that they were designed with outside cylinders and Walschaerts valve gear. Their short wheelbase of 12ft 10in allowed them to navigate very sharp curves, but precluded them from being used at speed on the main line as they became unsteady although a number were based at Old Oak Common shed and could often be seen engaged on carriage pilot duties between Old Oak Common and Paddington station.
