Parque Nacional del Distrito de los Lagos, ubicado en el condado de Cumbria. Se creó en el año 1951, para preservar el paisaje de las alteraciones nocivas que eventualmente podía causar la industria o comercio. Casi todo su territorio es propiedad privada, salvo pequeñas zonas que pertenecen al National Trust. Como es común en los parques nacionales ingleses, no hay ninguna restricción de entrada o circulación dentro del parque.
Es considerado un área de excepcional belleza natural, por su impresionante paisaje, único en Inglaterra. Las granjas, las colinas y los asentamientos le añaden valor estético al paisaje natural, con una ecología modificada por la influencia humana durante milenios y que incluye importantes hábitats de vida silvestre.
Los lagos y los ríos son frescos y puros. El nivel de nutrientes del agua de diferentes lagos varía proporcionando hábitats diversos para diferente flora y fauna.

The Lake District, located in the county of Cumbria National Park. It was created in 1951 to preserve the landscape of harmful alterations that could eventually cause the industry or trade. Almost all of its territory is private, except for small areas belonging to the National Trust property. As is common in the English national parks, there is no restriction of entry or movement within the park.
It is considered an area of outstanding natural beauty, its breathtaking scenery, unique in England. Farms, hills and settlements added aesthetic value of the natural landscape with an ecology modified by human influence for millennia and includes important wildlife habitats.
The lakes and rivers are fresh and pure. The nutrient level of the water varies in different lakes providing habitat for many different flora and fauna.

El Castillo de Urquhart magníficamente situado a orillas del Lago Ness, sigue siendo un bastión impresionante a pesar de su estado ruinoso. Es uno de los más grandes castillos y fortalezas de Escocia medieval, y tiene una larga historia.
Las excavaciones han proporcionado evidencias de asentamientos en esta zona que se remonta a unos 2000 AC.
Entre el siglo sexto y séptimo, había una simple fortaleza en el lugar. Después, a principios del siglo 13 existen los primeros registros sobre el Castillo de Urquhart, probablemente construido por la familia Durward.
Obtuvo el título de 'castillo real', y fue utilizado por los reyes de Escocia e Inglaterra. El rey Eduardo I de Inglaterra se instaló en el año 1296. Y el rey David II de Escocia lo ocupó en el año 1342.
Al igual que otros muchos castillos de Escocia, Urquhart estaba en el centro de discordias entre ingleses y escoceses. Este castillo tiene una historia militar muy activa y sangrienta. Siendo también disputado por la Corona, el clan MacDonald y la familia Grant.
Después de varios siglos turbulentos, el castillo fue abandonado en la década de 1600. La gente de los alrededores, utilizaban las piedras-rocas del castillo para construir y reparar sus propios hogares. Quedando en ruinas a finales del siglo 17. Además, a principios del siglo 18, una fuerte tormenta derribó el lado sur-oeste de la Casa Torre.
En la actualidad es propiedad del Patrimonio Nacional Escocés, y constituye el tercer sitio más visitado de Escocia. Desde 2001 cuenta con un centro de visitantes.
Ah, salen excursiones en barco por el Lago Ness "buscando a Nessi", jaja :-)

Urquhart Castle beautifully situated on the banks of Loch Ness, remains an impressive stronghold despite its dilapidated state. It is one of the largest medieval castles and fortresses of Scotland and has a long history.
Excavations have provided evidence of settlement in this area dates back to about 2000 years BC.
Between the sixth and seventh century, there was a simple fortress on the site. Then, in the early 13th century are the first records of Urquhart Castle, probably built by the Durward family.
He earned the title of 'Royal Castle' and was used by the kings of Scotland and England. King Edward I of England was installed in the year 1296. And King David II of Scotland was occupied in 1342.
Like many other castles in Scotland, Urquhart was at the center of discord between the English and Scots. This castle has a very active and bloody military history. Also it is disputed by the Crown, the MacDonald clan and Grant family.
After several turbulent centuries, the castle was abandoned in the 1600s. The people of the surroundings they took the rocks of the castle used to build and repair their own homes. It is ruined in the late 17th century addition, in the early 18th century, a strong storm toppled the south-west side of Tower House.
Today it is owned Scottish National Heritage, and is the third most visited site in Scotland. Since 2001 has a visitor center.

El fiordo de Forth ocupa un lugar estratégico como conexión entre el noreste y el sureste de Escocia.
Atravesarlo sin embargo, era muy peligroso: las tormentas tan frecuentes, los transbordadores tan poco fiables... e incluso hasta el siglo XVIII existía la posibilidad de encontrarse con piratas.
Por ello, el Parlamento decidió construir un puente de ferrocarril que cruzara la bahía.
Forth Bridge fue construido entre 1883 y 1890, para solucionar esos problemas.
Es un puente en ménsula o voladizo para ferrocarril, que atraviesa el fiordo de Forth, en el este de Escocia (Reino Unido), a 14 km del centro de Edimburgo.
El puente se considera, incluso hoy, como una obra maestra de la ingeniería victoriana.

The Firth of Forth occupies a strategic location as a link between the northeast and southeast Scotland.
To cross it however, was very dangerous: the so frequent storms, the ferryboats so little trustworthy... and even up to the 18th century existed the possibility of pirate attacks.
Therefore, the Parliament decided to build a railway bridge that crossed the bay.
Forth Bridge was built between 1883 and 1890, to solve these problems.
It is a cantilever bridge, for railroad crossing the Firth of Forth, eastern Scotland (UK), 14 km from the center of Edinburgh.
The bridge is considered even today as a masterpiece of Victorian engineering.
