Mágica tarde de otoño.
Wawel es el nombre de una colina situada en el lado izquierdo del río Vístula en Cracovia, Polonia. Es un lugar simbólico con un gran significado para los polacos. El Castillo Real y la Catedral de Wawel están situadas en dicha colina. Los reyes de Polonia y algunos polacos célebres están enterrados en la Catedral, que ha acogido a lo largo de la historia numerosas coronaciones.
Existen algunos restos arqueológicos que remontan la ocupación humana de Wawel hasta el siglo IV d. C. La historia de Wawel en la Edad Media está estrechamente ligada con la de los territorios de los reyes polacos de la época.
El significado de la colina de Wawel procede en parte de la combinación de estructuras y funciones políticas y religiosas. La Catedral contiene las reliquias de Estanislao de Cracovia.

Magic autumn afternoon.
Wawel is the name of a hill located on the left side of the Vistula River in Krakow, Poland. It is a symbolic place with a great significance for the Poles. The Royal Castle and the Wawel Cathedral are situated on this hill. The kings of Poland and some celebrated Poles are buried in the Cathedral, which has received throughout the history numerous coronations.
There are some archaeological remains dating back to the human occupation of Wawel until the 4th century AD. C. The history of Wawel in the Average Age is closely linked with that of the territories of the Polish kings of the time.
The significance of Wawel Hill derives in part from the combination of political and religious structures and functions. The Cathedral contains the relics of Stanislas of Krakow.

El Parque Planty está considerado como el cinturón verde de Cracovia.
Como buena ciudad de origen medieval, Cracovia estaba rodeada de un recinto amurallado. El auge del comercio hizo que ese sistema defensivo se hiciese más complejo, por lo que cuando perdió su utilidad (en el siglo XX) las autoridades decidieron desmantelarlo para aprovechar su espacio. Creando así un movimiento cultural muy fuerte, que promovió conservar tramos de la muralla y hacer un parque con el resto. Así fue como surgió el precioso Parque Planty, de aproximadamente 9 kilómetros de largo en forma de semicírculo. Son algo más de 20 hectáreas de anchura variable.
Podemos ir de un sitio a otro de Cracovia sin cruzar el centro urbano. Por ejemplo, desde el Castillo de Wawel hasta la Barbacana se podría ir en línea recta por todo el casco viejo, o recorriendo el Parque Planty por cualquiera de los dos lados.

Planty Park is considered as the green belt of Krakow.
As a good medieval town, Krakow was surrounded by a walled enclosure. The rise of trade made that defensive system become more complex, so when it lost its usefulness (in the twentieth century) the authorities decided to dismantle it to take advantage of its space. Creating thus a very strong cultural movement, which promoted the preservation of sections of the wall and make a park with the rest. This was how the beautiful Planty Park, about 9 kilometers long in the shape of a semicircle, emerged. They are slightly more than 20 hectares of variable width.
We can go from one place to another in Krakow without crossing the city center. For example, from Wawel Castle to Barbican you could go straight across the old town, or walk through Planty Park on either side.

Sin duda, la zona más bonita de Varsovia es el casco histórico, que fue reconstruido al 100% después de la II Guerra Mundial, puesto que fue completamente devastada por los furiosos bombardeos nazis.
Para reconstruir la ciudad vieja se inspiraron en pinturas de Bernardo Belloto (Siglo XVIII), y dibujos de estudiantes de arquitectura del período de entreguerras. También reutilizaron los materiales originales siempre que fue posible; ladrillos y elementos decorativos rescatados de los escombros fueron insertados en sus lugares originales. Tal vez eso explique que el centro de Varsovia parezca sacado de un cuento de hadas, de una película de época. La belleza de su resultado merecieron que Varsovia forme parte de la lista mundial del Patrimonio de la Unesco, en 1980.
El corazón del casco histórico de Varsovia es la Rynek Stare Miasto, Plaza del Mercado, que está presidida por la estatua de la sirenita guerrera. Según cuenta la leyenda, esta sirenita es hermana de la otra famosa sirenita, la de Copenhague. Explican que las dos hermanas huyeron de las frías aguas del mar Báltico. Una de las hermanas, cansada de nadar, se quedó en Dinamarca y la otra llegó hasta Varsovia, donde fue capturada. Esta sirenita que se llamaba Szawa fue liberada de su captor por un joven pescador llamado War. De la unión de éstos dos nombres surgió el nombre de Varsovia.
La misión de la sirenita era proteger a la ciudad de todos los males, por eso va armada de una espada y un escudo.

Undoubtedly, the nicest zone of Warsaw is the historical hull, which was reconstructed to 100 % after the World War II since it was completely devastated by the furious bombardments Nazi.
To rebuild the old city were inspired by paintings by Bernardo Bellotto (XVIII century), and drawings of architecture students of the interwar period. They also reused the original materials wherever possible; brick and decorative items salvaged from the rubble, were inserted into their original places. Perhaps that explains that the center of Warsaw seems straight out of a fairy tale, a period film. The beauty of the result deserved Warsaw part of the world heritage list of Unesco in 1980.
The heart of the old town of Warsaw is the Rynek Stare Miasto, Market Square, which is dominated by a statue of the warrior mermaid. According to legend, the mermaid is the sister of another famous Little Mermaid of Copenhagen. They explain that the sisters fled the cold waters of the Baltic Sea. One sister, tired of swimming, stayed in Denmark and the other came to Warsaw, where he was captured. This mermaid named Szawa was released from her captor by a young fisherman named War. For the sum of these two names, was called to Warsaw.
The mission of the Little Mermaid was to protect the city from all evils, so he is armed with a sword and shield.

La Plaza Mayor o Rynek Glówny, en polaco, es el corazón de Cracovia. Mide 200m de lado a lado. Fue construida en el siglo XII y es la más grande de Europa. En el centro de la misma está el antiguo mercado de paños (Sukiennice), un edificio precioso rodeado de arcadas, que alberga actualmente un mercadillo de artesanía en su planta baja, y parte del Museo Nacional en su primera planta. El ámbar es uno de los productos típicos de Polonia.
La Iglesia gótica de Santa María es el edificio que se ve al fondo-derecha. Su decoración interior y su altar mayor medieval son impresionantes. Además es posible subir hasta la torre más alta de la iglesia, desde donde se divisa toda Cracovia. Desde esta torre, cada hora en punto, un trompetista toca parte de una canción que es retransmitida por radio a todo el País como señal horaria. Se trata de una tradición que cuenta que un trompetista alertó de la invasión de la ciudad desde la torre, aunque fue alcanzado por una flecha antes de terminar la canción. Hoy día se conmemora así y toda la plaza queda en silencio para escuchar esta melodía.
En dicha Plaza tomé ésta fotografía (y muchas más, claro) a las 6,45 h. de la mañana, Lunes, por eso estaba vacía. El día anterior, Domingo, hizo un tiempo radiante, con lo cuál todo el mundo estaba en la calle, especialmente ésta Plaza estaba llena de quioscos de flores, de restaurantes típicos, de carruajes de caballos, de grandes artistas callejeros, músicos, pintores, todo tipo de atracciones, de mucha gente y de vida. Me encantó formar parte de ese maravilloso ambiente tan bonito y acogedor.

The Plaza Mayor or Glówny Rynek, in Polish, is the heart of Krakow. It measures 200 meters of side to side. It was built in the twelfth century and is the largest in Europe. In the center of it is the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), a beautiful building surrounded by arcades, which now houses a craft market on the ground floor, and the National Museum on the first floor. The Amber is one of the typical products from Poland.
The Gothic church of Santa Maria is the building seen in the background-right. His interior decoration and his major medieval altar are impressive. It is also possible to climb to the highest tower of the church, From where it is possible to see whole Cracovia. From this tower, every hour, a trumpeter plays part of a song that is broadcast by radio across the country as time signal. It is a tradition that a trumpeter warned of the invasion of the city from the tower but was hit by an arrow before finishing the song. Today it is commemorated of this way, and all is quiet to hear this tune.
In that square I made this photograph (and many more, of course) were the 6.45 h. am, Monday, so it was empty. The previous day, Sunday, did a radiant time, therefore all were in the street, especially in this square was full of kiosks of flowers, typical restaurants, carriage rides of horses, street performers featuring music, of painters, all kinds of attractions, many people and life. I loved being part of this wonderful atmosphere so nice and welcoming.
