Lanzarote es una isla del archipiélago canario, en el océano Atlántico. Pertenece a la provincia de Las Palmas. Su capital es Arrecife. El nombre de la isla procede del marino genovés Lanceloto Malocello, quien la visitó en el siglo XIV.
Es conocida popularmente como "la isla de los volcanes", al identificarse con el manto volcánico que se extiende a lo largo de gran parte de su superficie debido a la actividad volcánica desde principios del siglo XVIII.
Cuenta con una espectacular naturaleza, su flora y fauna insular está plagada de endemismos.

Lanzarote is an island of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It belongs to the province of Las Palmas. Its capital is Arrecife. The island's name comes from the Genoese sailor Lanceloto Malocello, who visited in the fourteenth century.
It is popularly known as the "island of the volcanoes", to identify with the volcanic mantle extending over much of its surface due to volcanic activity since the early eighteenth century.
It has a spectacular nature, flora and island fauna is plagued by endemism.
