Soto del Barco es un pequeño pueblo ubicado en la costa cantábrica, en la margen derecha de la desembocadura del río Nalón, siendo uno de los más pequeños de Asturias.
Debe su nombre a una antigua embarcación utilizada para comunicar en tiempos pasados las dos orillas de la ría, antes de que se construyese puente alguno.
Su vegetación tiene abundancia de plantas debido a la humedad del ambiente, y a la corriente del río que transporta semillas de vegetales desde las montañas.
Es destacable la fauna de río y de mar, donde podemos encontrar diversas especies como truchas, anguilas, lampreas y la presencia de angulas.

Soto del Barco is a small town located on the Cantabrian coast, on the right bank of the mouth of the Nalón River, being one of the smallest in Asturias.
It owes its name to an old boat used to communicate in the past the two banks of the estuary, before any bridge was built.
Its vegetation has an abundance of plants due to the humidity in the environment, as well as the current of the river that transports vegetable seeds from the mountains.
It is remarkable the sea and river fauna, where we can find various species such as trout, eels, lampreys and the presence of elvers.
