The New Years Eve fireworks above Treasure Island on the strip.

I have wanted to do some kind of project to keep me thinking about composition and taking different shots. That's one of things I like about Flickr, theres always inspiration lurking somewhere. And this shot gave me the idea to do a 52 week series with my iPhone and the app Polarize. Fortunately, I am always snapping shots with my phone so I had a couple that I liked to back date to the start of the year :)

So you may have noticed from my stream that I like night shots. Ever since I was quite young, I always wanted to be up late. Something about the night I have always loved. In my adult life, this has made me the total night owl. So on this late night, I was driving back from shooting on Las Vegas Blvd when my wife took this with the camera sat on the passenger dashboard. I gave her a quick tutorial, like 20 seconds, and off she went. She shot maybe 10 shots and this was the one she picked to upload. Chaos is what she called it, rather apt I think!

On processing, I upped the saturation a little and the vibrance alot! Increase the blacks and used recovery to help the highlights. All in all a pretty wild mess I am sure you will agree!

A redux of a shot in the first batch of images I uploaded to Flickr. In that time, my Photoshop knowledge has expanded greatly. Still so much to learn though :)

Cropped the original for a better composition, imo. Added a duplicate layer set to soft light at 50% opacity to increase contrast. Played with the color curves to enhance the blacks. Then added two layers of orange filter, one at 100% opacity and the other at 60% to warm up the image and give the sun rays those golden tones. Overall, I am really pleased how this came out. Hope you like it.
