The scent of campfire smoke is a favorite smell of mine, I will purposely sit in the smoke just to make myself smell like it.
There are few things that make me as happy as sitting beside a campfire as the alpine glows in the pink moment and the day turns to dusk as the cloak of night is pulled over the earth, while the milky way slowly alights the winter sky.

taken on a short backpacking trip to the Los Padres National Forest. i tried to photograph it just as my eye was seeing it, the light from the flickering flames drowned out all light and detail beyond the circle of firelight except for the blue light of the twilight sky. The spreading branches of the old oak swayed gently in a light breeze. The trickle of water in the creek near by and the chirping of frogs along its banks sang the music of the night with the crackling percussion of the dancing flames.
