Yellowstone's Lewis River carved this impressive canyon on it's way to joining the Snake River.
Named after Meriwether Lewis. However, he didn't pass by here during his Corp of Discovery Expedition to the Pacific coast. They were much further North.

I'm always impressed with the varied rich colors of the rocks, boulders and mountains of Glacier Park. Pretty much any color can be found there. According to GNP their striking color comes from the small amount of iron in their composition. Red means oxygen was present when the rock formed, green means the atmosphere was lacking oxygen.

When one is up high one frequently has to deal with high winds. Generally irritates me some, but winds also create more drama and nice cloud structures. It's worth being pushed around and chasing my cap to see sights like this. I liked these wispy cirrus clouds rising above Oregon's Mt. Hood. Click.

Autumn and winter colors seen in summer (August) along the spectacular Glenn Highway. Didn't have to worry about mosquitoes. Sandals not recommended.
