Title struggle again....

Thought I'd post a lush mossy image of the Hoh Rainforest, where it's cool and very green year around. Would like to be walking thru this primordial forest on these Hot summer days.

Hope you're keeping cool and enjoying a wonderful Sunday.

Something green for St. Patrick's Day.

"May the leprechauns be near you,
To spread luck along your way.
And may all the Irish angels,
Smile upon you on St. Patrick's Day."

Cheers!

I'll be away for a few days. Enjoy the rest of the week and weekend!

On my way back I met my hiking companion Greg, hanging on the wall along an exciting section of the Highline Trail. He's such a character, always good for a laugh. I enjoyed walking back the rest of the way with him. This section of the trail does require some yielding and cooperation with other hikers coming from the other direction. Not a problem, as everyone is in such good spirits with all this beauty around them.

Bird Woman Falls is still slightly in view in the hanging valley between Mt. Cannon and Mt. Oberlin. The Valley to the right is the McDonald Creek drainage that leads to McDonald Lake.

Thanks for hanging on with me thru this photo journey along this magnificent trail.

For those traveling today to join loved ones for the Thanksgiving Holiday, please be warm and safe. Wishing you all a joyous Holiday, where we give Thanks for our many blessings.

A couple fellow hikers pause to catch their breath and take in some of the beauty that is Smith Rock while hiking the Misery Trail (steep but not all that long: good thing).

"This landscape of rock spires, cliffs, and canyonlands lies along the northern edge of the Crooked River caldera, a 26-mile long, 17-mile wide volcanic depression formed through a series of super-volcanic eruptions between 29.7 and 27.5 million years ago. Eruptions from the Crooked River caldera deposited massive volumes (>140 cubic miles) of tuff and rhyolitic lavas, dikes, and domes. All of these volcanic features are now well exposed in the rock walls of Smith Rock State Park.

Approximately 400,000 years ago, more recent lava flows erupted from Newberry Volcano, twenty-five miles south of present-day Bend, and flowed north, largely covering the caldera-filling tuff and diverting the Crooked River up against Smith Rock. Both older and younger rocks at Smith Rock State Park have been deeply eroded, sculpted, and incised by the modern-day Crooked River."

A fascinating geological wonder!

Thanks for the visit. Always appreciated!

Have a wonderful week!

Two Medicine Lake shrinks and almost disappears as I top out on the Scenic Point trail. I was the first hiker on the trail this morning. The bottom of the trail is forest, following along Appistoki creek, and it's pretty falls. After a continual 2400 foot climb I could look both East and West. The view east (flat, hazy and did I say flat?) can't compare with the view west. The winds were horrendous on this open saddle, some of the worst I've experienced when hiking. I wanted to hike to the top of that peak blocking Rising Wolf mountain on the right, but wasn't sure I wouldn't fly away. They shut down this trail occasionally when the winds are unsafe. Best to get an early start, as the winds pick up as the sun moves west. Highly recommended when in the Two Medicine area.

December's here.
2011 sure whizzed bye fast huh?
