There are several CCC structures scattered thru the PNW. Their impressive works are standing the tests of time very well. This is one of my favorites. Enjoyed watching some Orca's swim north while relaxing here.
"The Civilian Conservation Corps established a camp at Cape Perpetua in 1933. The West Shelter was used as an observation post during World War II and a coastal defense gun was installed here. The shelter is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
The CCC-constructed West Shelter sits atop the 45 million-year-old oceanic shield volcano of Cape Perpetua. On a clear day, the shelter offers a 70-mile view up and down the central Oregon coast and the horizon sits 40 miles out on the Pacific Ocean. With binoculars, you can experience gray whale migrations in season and the meadows at the top of the Cape offer a dazzling variety of wildflowers in spring and early summer."
