Photography is a hobby for me. I snap a shot or two when I can. Typically this occurs when I am on a walk with my young daughter. A quck shot while she is in the stroller, or while holding her with one arm and the camera in the other hand (not recommended). I get an idea for a shot and then have to execute it very quickly. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Even when it does work I typically think that the shot could have turned out better if I had more time to compose it, dial in my settings, set up a tripod, etc. On several occasions I have found the time to go back for a more extended shoot. I have yet to get a better shot (in recent memory at least). Circumstances always conspire against me. This shot conforms to that general pattern. I snapped it while on a walk with M and M and my sister who was visiting from out of town. Tonight I went back to try to get a better shot. I break out the tripod, start dialing things in, and just as I've found the settings and composition that are to my liking building security comes out and tells me that I can't take pictures on their property. I'm informed that the invisible property line is two feet to the right of where I'm standing (it all just looks like the sidewalk to me). I can move two feet to the right and take pictures of their building all night long but they don't want to be liable if I lose consciousness and am impaled by my own tripod on their property. Well, I can't use this cool pillar as a point of focus with the sidewalk, the subway entrance, and the lights of State Street in the background when I'm standing two feet to the right. Thwarted again!

Please view on black (press L). I think it's much better that way...
