It's not easy to find solitude when you live in the middle of a big city. But it can be done. I love going to the lakefront when it's likely that I'll be the only one there. With a blizzard in full force and a Super Bowl about to begin, I knew that my odds would be favorable on this trip. It is hard to describe what it is like to bunker down next to the lake in these conditions. The incessant roar of the wind, the blowing snow, the barely visible icy swells, the crashing waves, and the bitter cold created an atmosphere that, for me, was unforgettabe and inspiring. This is a half-second exposure of some big waves crashing along the shore, with lots of falling and blowing snow. That was about as long as I could keep my tripod still in the high winds.
