The sad story of Isabella Morra, the sixteenth-century poetess born in Valsinni and killed by her own brothers who oppose a love affair, was told in the movie Sexum Superando - Isabella Morra.

In 2005 the film was directed by the director Marta Bifano and produced by Paul John Flint and in September of the same year it was screened at the Venice Film Festival. The film traces the true story of the young Isabella, considered one of the most appreciated Renaissance petrarchist poetesses, who at the age of 26 was killed by brothers who opposed a presumed relationship with the baron of Bollita - today Nova Siri, in the province of Matera - the Spaniard Diego Sandoval de Castro.

The Neumünster Collegiate church (German: Kollegiatstift Neumünster, French: Collégiale de Neumünster) is a collegiate church in Würzburg, Germany. The church dates back to 1065. In 1060 Adalbero of Würzburg built a church with a nave and aisles and two choirs in Romanesque style. From 1180 to 1250 the church was renovated and its eastern section was expanded. The Romanesque west choir was demolished, and from 1711 to 1716 Josef Greising built the west façade in Baroque style. From 1725 the interior was redesigned in the baroque style by the brothers Johann Baptist Zimmermann and Dominikus Zimmermann. In the Second World War, the church was damaged during the Bombing of Würzburg in World War II. From 1945 to 1952 the interior was restored.

Leaving Eifel land you come to Bergische land this is the area of undulating hills between the Ruhr and Sieg rivers and also where I spend most of my time in Germany when I travel for business.

Pictured here is probably the fanciest house in the park the Mannesmannhaus aus Remscheid, Mannesmann was a file maker and a shrewd businessman and investor who turned his small business into a metal making empire that today is worth billions and the most respected metals manufacturer in Germany.

The house dates from 1795 when Johann Heinrich Mannesmann settled in Bliedinghausen, originally a half timbered affair it was rebuilt as Mannesmann’s prosperity grew into what we see today.

The family moved into a mansion befitting their stature and wealth in the later part of the 19th century and kept possession of the original homestead until it was donated to the park in the mid 21rst century.

I took this with my D750 and Tamron SP 24-70mm 2.8 G2 Lens at 70mm 1/25, f/11 ISO 100 processed in LR, Topaz Denoise, PS (Lumenzia curves masks and DXO Nik Color Efex)

Disclaimer: Not trying to be realistic in my editing there is enough realism in the world, my style is a mix of painterly and romanticism as well as a work in progress.

Schloss Nordkirchen is a must for anyone who loves landscaped gardens. The spacious garden of this Baroque palace is part of the European garden network and is one of the finest gardens in Europe. The park is one of the main reasons why Schloss Nordkirchen is also called the “Versailles of Westphalia”.
The stately palace itself was built in the French Classical style by Gottfried Laurenz Pictorius and Johann Conrad Schlaun between 1703 and 1734. The garden is open to the public all year round. Separate guided tours of the palace and garden provide visitors with insights into the history and special features of the estate.

The location on the banks of the river Rhine allowed Utrecht to become an important trade centre in the Northern Netherlands. The growing town Utrecht was granted city rights by Henry V in 1122. When the main flow of the Rhine moved south, the old bed, which still flowed through the heart of the town became ever more canalized; and the wharf system was built as an inner city harbour system. On the wharfs storage facilities (werfkelders) were built, on top of which the main street, including houses was constructed. The wharfs and the cellars are accessible from a platform at water level with stairs descending from the street level to form a unique structure. The relations between the bishop, who controlled many lands outside of the city, and the citizens of Utrecht was not always easy. The bishop, for example dammed the Kromme Rijn at Wijk bij Duurstede to protect his estates from flooding. This threatened shipping for the city and led the city of Utrecht to commission a canal to ensure access to the town for shipping trade: the Vaartse Rijn, connecting Utrecht to the Hollandse IJssel at IJsselstein.
