It is a real art to build these - proper craftsmen do it, although there are lots of courses for interested people to learn the skills too. But this is what happens, suddenly, often with no warning.... and then it gets expensive. One of our neighbours phoned yesterday to say that her side of a wall we share, had collapsed - great joy!!

For Flickr Friday - Just another brick in the wall
We don't do bricks here in the Cotswolds, everything is made from local stone - and, of course, at this time of year, the dry stone walls get attacked by rain and frost, and they all come tumbling down....

At first glance, our dry stone walls all look the same-ish, but when you get a chance to study so many by living with them for 40 odd years, you realise that they are built in many different ways using many different sizes and shapes of stone, as well, in some instances, as other materials such as brick and even wood. Mostly built by the local agricultural community over the years, with materials to hand, they have become an iconic part of the local culture, and you mess with them at your peril!!

To show that I dream of cold places too - occasionally! It's a bland, grey damp morning here in the Cotswolds!
