This Meadowhawk species is one of the more common late summer, early fall dragonflies at work in meadows around Ottawa. This is the female (the more gaudy male is very red, and gets a lot of attention) and it often sits along less disturbed trails, ready to pounce on the insects it consumes (unlike the dragonflies that steadily patrol, like the Green Darner).
