I came across this small Grass Snake in a small pond near moorland at the weekend. It stuck around just long enough for a photograph before slipping quietly under the surface and not re-appearing.

This lizard was basking on a plastic cover when I photographed it. Not the most natural of settings but it at least helped to isolate the subject; almost like a photographer's studio! The image was taken at Creag Meagaidh NNR, Scottish Highands
