The Arecibo Observatory is most famous for being one of the scenes in the 007 GoldenEye movie. More importantly, this is the largest radio telescope ever built, with a 305 meter spherical reflector. This is the place that collects data for the SETI@Home project, and where many important scientific discoveries have been made. There was a big scare that the NSF would stop funding the observatory and it would have to close down in 2011; fortunately this seems to have been reversed! (Jun 18, 2010)

The antennas of the Very Large Array are spaced out to work as a single large antenna, like a zoom lens. In this configuration (A) they span a diameter of 36 Km end-to-end, with a spacing of 680m between each antenna.
This is the least interesting configuration for photographs since the antennas are at the furthest apart from each other (in this photo I could only get 5 of them, they are 27 in total).
