The most iconic view of the American Southwest. Monument Valley is in the Navajo Nation reservation. It is part of the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. The East Mitten Butte (center) is the tallest at 1,026 ft or 313 m high from the plateau. The Mitten Buttes (left and center) are less than 1 mile away from the Utah-Arizona border.

Delphinus delphis. These three were part of a group of about 20 that were some 2 miles off the Cabo da Roca (Cape Roca). They were probably hunting fish.
trip was done with Dolphin Explorers; a bit expensive but well worth the money. Semi-rigid power boat takes 12, you'll be pretty close to the action and if there are waves this is also a great joyride!

The Arecibo Observatory is most famous for being one of the scenes in the 007 GoldenEye movie. More importantly, this is the largest radio telescope ever built, with a 305 meter spherical reflector. This is the place that collects data for the SETI@Home project, and where many important scientific discoveries have been made. There was a big scare that the NSF would stop funding the observatory and it would have to close down in 2011; fortunately this seems to have been reversed! (Jun 18, 2010)
