I'm testing the limits of usability with some of the 35mm Retina lenses I have at my disposal, and this is a test of a Retina III S fitted with the Retina-Xenon 50mm F1.9 lens.
Here, the shot was composed with the lens at f4 - so barely stopped down. Its sharp where it needs to be, with a reasonable depth-of-focus as the scene recedes. I think I will do more work using the lens wide open, because there is a bit too much optical vibration occurring in the background where I'd prefer the OOF areas be smooth and textureless.
I'm finding these lenses perform quite well at wider apertures (pleasantly surprised!) and plan to do more work of this nature.
