Taking a short break from processing my Isle of Skye images… I popped down to the beach this afternoon… to capture another panorama of my favourite flat-topped mountain… Table Mountain.

To fully appreciate the level of detail in the flower-carpet... you simply must view this one large on black. :)

EDIT: I have reprocessed and re-uploaded this image... the sky was looking terrible when I viewed my original version on my screens at the office... I badly need to calibrate my monitor at home... I'm just not seeing what I'm supposed to be seeing! :)

Nikon D800, Nikon 50mm, aperture of f/16, with a 1/500th second exposure.

Well… yesterday afternoon I ticked another “SNAP” location off my to-shoot list… this view of Hout Bay and the Sentinel at sunset… taken from the edge of a granite ledge… somewhere along Chapman’s Peak drive.

I really like the way that this one turned out… the subject was spectacular… the light was gorgeous… and the clouds were really performing for me… I think this might just be one of my own personal favorite shots… ever!

Nikon D800, Nikon 14-24mm at 16mm, aperture of f14, with a 1/40th second exposure.

Although my intention was to shoot the beached fishing trawler in the best possible light on Saturday... by the time the sun was starting to set... I'd had enough! All the other people crowding behind the police marker-tape were getting in my way... and I was beginning to get bored of playing the... "sneak past the police-line as far as possible (to get the best shots) before being chased back by the cops" game!!

So when the sun started to set... I ambled off to a quieter part of the beach to see if I could find something interesting to shoot there. The road above the beach was chokka-block full of cars and people trying to get a glimpse of the stricken trawler (on First beach)... but I was very surprised to see that Clifton's Third beach was almost completely deserted! It was a pleasant day... not really ideal weather for swimming in the cold Atlantic... but still... I was definitely expecting to find more than the 20 or so other people that were sitting on the beach waiting for the sunset!? Oh well... whatever the reason... I certainly wasn't complaining... it felt like I had the whole beach to myself!!

If you look directly into the sun in this photo... you'll notice the faint outline of one of the tugboats that has been attempting to refloat the trawler. I've included a better shot of that tug in the comments section below.

Nikon D3100, Sigma 18-200mm at 18mm, aperture of f11, with a 1/100th second exposure.
