Jan 1977 this plant was green in the winter and looked like Rapunzels hair turned green, but I don't know what it is and I've never seen anything like it anywhere else

I had to use a wide-angle lens to get this shot, see the adjacent photo to gauge the size

Mar 1977 taken near Bayview in South Texas on the way back from a visit to South Padre Island where it was foggy and windy with blowing sand that day

the grass was unusually lush that spring and in this area just about all the shrubbery has thorns, even the grass often has "stickers"
