Hemingway and Martha Gelhorn first rented then bought the old Finca la Vigía. It's at San Francisco de Paula, about half an hour outside Havana (you can see the city and ocean from the patio). Hemingway wrote most of his major novels here. His boat, the Pilar, is here too. He usually moored it in the nearby fishing village Cojimar. The village and its tavern the Terazza provide the setting for The Old Man and the Sea.
