This rusty truck body was pushed off the edge of the field above, and left to last on the shores of a trickling, nameless brook. Where it fell from was owned at various times by Donald, Nancy, and Mary McDonald, and Catherine Gohan. It's more than likely that one of their family name once sat behind this wheel as driver. Every old farmstead left something similar behind. In the days before wreckers, hauling off to the junkyard was an extra, unnecessary expense. So you stripped what you could for parts, then dragged the corpse the shortest possible distance out of view – usually to the corners of the property. Everything gets so shrouded out here in young growth country. I missed the sight on my hike south on Old Saint Joseph's Road, and barely spotted it on the return back north. If it'd been summer, I wouldn't have had a hope. Lost in the mist of a billion shades of brown. It's hard to believe that sea of green soon coming.
