Whilst in San Francisco with my darling west coast damsel a couple of weekends ago heading toward San Francisco’s Union Square we passed Powell Street and I captured this image of the iconic cable cars on the festively adorned street as they were about to cross paths.

When I saw these in Costa Rica, I thought, "They have this species here, too?" It was pretty unmistakable with its orange smiley face and green legs. But just recently, the species has been split, so now there's the original Leucauge venusta in North America north of Florida, and this species in Florida, Mexico, and south of there.

Do you see it? It comes in varying shades, from yellow to orange to red, but I think it's always there on these. Even when they are tiny specks hanging suspended, I can tell what they are because of the glint of orange-red there.
