Photographed on Coffin Rock along the Silverado Motorway. The Motorway is no longer a real motorway - Drake climbed a thousand feet or more fueled by biscuits to get to this spot. He did not whine or try to turn back. I get the feeling that he is especially proud of himself as he watches the late afternoon sun. He slept well that night. Woof!

Erected in 1934 by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, it became the subject of a lawsuit on First Amendment grounds. Courts ruled on behalf of the plaintiff meaning that the cross had to be removed because it stood on government land. Congress intervened, arranging a land swap with the VFW, skirting the Establishment Clause by ensuring that the cross now stood on private land within the Preserve.
