Many thanks to Keith Lee and David Slater for another gem from the Go Ahead archives. I would, perhaps, not have gone to the trouble of digitally-colouring this particular image, had I not needed it as the base for the accompanying Leyland Tiger Cub versions, because the sister vehicle SPT 65 is (hopefully) nearing the end of a very long restoration by the North East Bus Preservation Trust. These 44-seat Weymann 'Hermes'-bodied Guy Arab LUF buses were supplied new to Northern General in 1955 and lasted until the mid-1960s. Most, if not all, saw further use with subsequent operators. Northern subsidiary Sunderland District operated Leyland Tiger Cubs with similar bodies (23-Jul-07).

This special silver Jubilee livery was carried by Tyne & Wear PTE open-top Alexander-bodied Leyland Atlantean KBB 118D, which fortunately survives in preservation. Purchased between 1975 and 1977, the 140 Metropolitans were the newest buses in the Tyne & Wear fleet and, therefore, the most likely candidates for a closed-top version of this livery had it been intended to apply it more widely. Thanks to Stephen Hughes for the base image (12-May-22).

I will quite happily admit to using diecast models as reference material, at the risk of perpetuating any errors inherent in those models. Only 32 AEC Q-Type double-deckers were built and Corgi has modelled a fair number of them. Of the provincial versions, this is possibly the most attractive. The pre-Tilling Westcliff-on Sea livery has a hint of City of Oxford Motor Services about it, although there was no connection between the operators. This image still needs some finishing touches and I would particularly like to hear from anyone who can provide the correct legal lettering - I could not read this from the images on the web (07-Aug-13).

It was expected that South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive would join West Yorkshire PTE in funding new Class 141s for local services. In the event, I can only find reference to a number of Derby Class 114 DMUs painted in its ‘coffee and cream’ livery and, curiously, these were based at Lincoln (surely well beyond the PTEs area?). In the absence of a suitable Class 114, I’ve applied the livery to a Metro-Cammell Class 101 - a type widely used across the country so not out of place. As is probably apparent from the background, this is actually the Keighley & Worth Valley’s preserved unit (16-Feb-23).

I can't respond to all requests but this seemed to be an interesting proposition. The real-life KJD 250P is preserved in original London Transport livery within the Ensignbus heritage fleet. This fictional version carries the blue and silver livery of the operational fleet, which currently comprises state-of-the-art kit but, in previous times, may well have included Metropolitans. Thanks to Steven Hughes for the base image (23-May-16).
