Established in 1998 to take over 88 former China Motor Bus routes, New World First Bus became the third largest bus operator in Hong Kong. Initially a joint venture between New World Development and UK-based First Group, it later came under the sole control of NWD, which subsequently purchased fellow franchised bus operator Citybus, re-uniting the former China Motor Bus franchised bus services on Hong Kong island under control of a single organisation. This fictional Mercedes-Benz Actros recovery vehicle is based on an image kindly provided by Martin Vonk (02-Nov-19).

This image has been digitally backdated from the accompanying 'coal scuttle' version and I can't claim that it is 100% accurate. Nevertheless, it allows me to feature another model from DAF's rich heritage. The livery has also been backdated to depict the first style of Van Gend & Loos logo, which is clearly derived from the original ATO version on the Austin K2. For more information about the company, please see extended caption under the Austin K2. Thanks again to Martin Vonk for the use of his base image (03-Jun-14).

This image was inspired by a photo published on the cover of the July 1955 Australian Truck and Bus Transportation magazine. Blue Metal is a construction aggregate, which is crushed and screened to a consistent size for use in paths, driveways and drainage pits. Judging by the photo, the Sydney-based Australian Blue Metal Company had a significant fleet of Foden FG tippers. Note the double-skin ‘tropical’ roof, a common feature on British trucks exported to Australia (25-Jul-22).

The Scania 3-Series was introduced in 1987 as successor to the outwardly similar 2-Series and was succeeded in 1997 by the face-lifted 4-Series. It came with a range of engine sizes and horsepowers from 9.0 litre 230 horsepower all the way up to 14 litre V8 500 horsepower. The 143m is widely considered to be one of the best European tractor unit of its time, with an enviable reputation for reliability. The designation 143M means 14-litre, 3-Series, medium-weight. This fictional left-hand drive version with a green Dutch trade is finished as a Scania demonstrator. Whilst it may not be Scania house-style, I have seen a similar-liveried coach that looked very smart. Thanks to Marin Vonk for the base image (18-Feb-16).

There is no precedence for this image but I thought that it would be a good fit with the other NZ Fire Service Bedfords. The base image is a former Auxilliary Fire Service petrol can carrier that saw further use as a support vehicle with a UK fire service (updated 03-Aug-15).
