MGB 286E was a Bedford SB with Plaxton Embassy 41-seat coach body delivered new to David MacBrayne in 1967. It passed with the bulk of MacBrayne’s bus business to Highland Omnibuses in the early 1970s and is depicted here in that company’s two-tone blue coaching livery, which was later superseded by the orange and peacock blue scheme (25-Sep-20).

WGR 850R was one of the last three Plaxton-bodied service buses to enter service with Trimdon Motor services before the company standardised on Duple Dominant bodies. It entered service in April 1977 in a unique blue, red and white livery, commemorating the Queen’s Silver Jubilee; and later received standard fleet livery before withdrawal in March 1983. It is recorded as being scrapped in 1996 after further service with various operators. This digital representation is based on similar PPT 446P, which was supplied new to The Eden, West Auckland and subsequently preserved by Graeme Scarlett (13-May-22).

The inspiration here is clearly Stobart's tri-axle Scania Irizar coach. Possibly an indulgence for executive and staff transport alone; but, with table seating fitted, it could double as a hospitality vehicle. It would certainly be an eye-catching attraction at Truckfest or any trade event. Now into its fifth season, the Plaxton Elite retains its wow factor as probably the most stylish coach on British roads (03-May-14).

I have no information about this company or the colour of its vehicles and have selected this shade of brown simply to distinguish it from other planned versions. Once again, it is based on another very fine Plaxton archive image courtesy of Philip Kirk of the Kithead Trust (www.kitheadtrust.org.uk). The QX designation refers to the cab style and this is the original version with chrome slatted grille. An innovation feature of vehicles with this cab was the horizontal under-cab engine, which enabled a flat cab floor and seating for three persons (21-Jan-16).

Gash had several of these Plaxton-bodied Leyland Leopards, which passed with the business to the Lincolnshire Road Car Company as late survivors of this once common body style. This is an approximation of L10 (YAL 329M) based in an image found on Flickr (29-Jun-13).
