The Foden FG was a clear case of Corgi shoe-horning every available casting into its Stobart range. The lining doesn’t appear best suited to the lines of the cab and the curious combined headboard/ roof rack seems to have been a carry-over from its Showmans range. Whilst not the most convincing model in the range, it seems to have been popular with collectors and presumbly sold well at the height of Stobart mania (updated 20-Oct-22).

Corgi must have done very well from its Stobart range of truck as, presumably, must Stobart itself from the necessary licencing agreements. Unfortunately, many of the models were well off the mark in terms of being accurate representations of real-life prototypes. I’m not aware of any rigid eight-wheelers in the Stobart fleet, other than the latter-day Scanias in the Stobart Rail fleet. That said, the ERF KV dropside was an attractive model. This digital representation is based on the Chain Bridge Honey Farm’s YMS III (itself the subject of an EFE model), photographed at Chester-Le-Street in 2006 (updated 20-Oct-22).

The LB76 was probably the first Scania to be seen in the UK in any number, albeit not to the same extent as succeeding models. Vabis was a long-established Swedish truck maker with whom Scania merged; the Vabis name was dropped when the company merged with Saab in 1969. After the two companied de-merged in 1995, Scania continued trading as Scania AB, attracting failed take-over bids from Volvo and MAN. Volkswagen currently has a majority shareholder. I doubt whether Stobart had any LB76s but it did buy the later Scania 110. Thanks to Martin Vonk for the base image, which will appear in other UK liveries shortly (01-Feb-17).

This is a loose representation of a very rare truck in the Stobart fleet and may actually have been a sub-contractor’s vehicle. The relatively plain green and red livery was characteristic of Stobart’s early days. The later ‘addition’ of white was as much an economy measure as an attempt to brighten up the livery; most new trucks were supplied in plain white, with additional colours being an added cost. Thanks to Martin Vonk for the base image (24-Jan-20).

The UK market for heavy trucks has always been dominated by forward-control (cab-over-engine) designs and it is only in recent years that normal control (bonneted) models have begun to make an impact with the Scania T-Cab range. From an earlier era, the Scania 111 was popular on mainland Europe and export markets such as North Africa. This fictional image is based on a Dutch-registered vehicle (with digitally-amended driving position). As far as I'm aware, Stobart didn't have any Scania 111s, but such has been the proliferation of diecast models in Stobart livery that it seems anything goes (03-Nov-13).
