A further example from a series of photo features prepared many years ago for a specialist magazine. The text was believed to be correct at the time of writing (c2008):
"In March 1948, the owner of bus licence number 3249 purchased a three-axle Leyland Hippo lorry chassis from the Royal Navy. By May of the following year, it had been bodied by Anthony Bonavia of Rabat as a three-axle bus. It was rebuilt to two-axle layout in 1953, probably by Tonna; and was allocated to the Rabat route in the 1955 route re-distribution scheme, where it ran alongside Hippo 2981. The image below is a digital collage using 1996 and 1960s photographs by Andrew Muckley and Andrew Johnson respectively. The top inset photograph by David Little shows the same bus as A-3249 in 1982. Note that the distinctive, but rather dated, Leyland exposed radiator had been replaced by a more ‘modern’ assembly of local design. This was later replaced by a standard Bedford SB unit in the fashion of the time, as illustrated in the second view by Andrew Muckley taken in 1996 when running as Y-0702, after an interim period as Y-1403. The most startling transformation occurred in 2000, when a new 45-seat body was fitted by Cassar. This incorporated many Plaxton parts as illustrated in the third view, taken by the author in March 2002. This incredible veteran remained in service at the time of writing" (20-Apr-20)
